I wrote this after reading about 30 women brave enough to testify against a man. I wrote this with all the people I know sexually assaulted in mind, and it’s a lot. But this is for more than just them. It’s for every time a lie is more valued by society over a truth because we are scared of admitting a flaw. Every person has a truth society as a whole refuses to acknowledge or accept and that’s because individual truths can contradict so harshly and it’s so innate to seek survival of self over being open to a new idea or view of something. I struggle with this. I’ve seen others struggle with this. Just because we are different, we all can listen, we all can see, and we all can love. That may look differently for everyone, but we all have those innate drives within us. My word of the year is open. I am going to try to be open to new adventures, open to new opinions, and open to new possibilities of self. I hope I continue to break the mold of who I was in order to show how change can have a positive influence on this world.
Life can be so unkind. Humans can be so unkind. But this is a new year, a new opportunity to be better. Let 2020 be a year to seek truth, to open hearts, to be discerning while yearning to still listen even if you disagree. No matter our differences, we are so connected in this world by more than could ever meet the eye. All you can do is try, or you already fail and spread hurt. Let’s not accept failure as status quo. Let’s not be okay letting things that matter go. Let’s be brave and open and true. I’m going to try, will you? ▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️▫️
